Beautiful Creatures is one of Entertainment Weekly’s “34 Movies We Can’t Wait to See”

Beautiful Creatures (Feb. 13)

The Twilight effect is in full swing, ladies and gentlemen. Based on Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s young adult novel by the same title, Beautiful Creatures is the latest big-screen adaptation of a paranormal teen trilogy. In development since 2009, the movie follows teen outcast Lena Duchannes (Alice Englert), a witch — or ”caster” in Creaturesparlance — who is fated to become either good or evil on her sweet 16. That destiny is challenged when Lena falls for Ethan Wate (Alden Ehrenreich), an ordinary kid determined to save his new love from potential doom. Add in Emmy Rossum (above) as Lena’s supernaturally manipulative cousin Ridley, who’s sent by Lena’s own mother (Emma Thompson) to make sure the teen doesn’t opt for good, and this Southern Gothic plot is sure to cast its spell on you.

Great Interview from TNS with Alden Ehrenreich and Alice Englert

January 31, 2013

Were you trying to be inspirational to viewers?

Alice: I think trying to make people think anything never works you can’t make people think things. but I think the moral issues in the film is something I appreciated and agreed with and it was just trying to portray that.

Alden:  Something the authors told me is they know this genre really well and in a lot of the books the guys are these steely aloof jerks to the girls and they wanted to romanticise a guy who is interested in things and contentious, polite and has ambitions and reads books. They wanted to have a good guy to be in these books for young girls because if you’re a young girl and you start to idealising mean guys it’s not going to work.   ”
